Childbirth Classes FAQs

You're thinking about taking our classes, but need more information before investing.

We've compiled some of the frequently asked questions about our Complete Birth & Baby Class Series.

Q: When should I take these classes?
A: We recommend that you start your first class anytime between 26 and 33 weeks. If our schedule does not work for you, inquire about our private options.

Q: Can my partner attend?
A: Absolutely! Your partner/support person is encouraged to attend all classes, for no additional fee. Please contact us if you need access for more than 1 support person.

Q: Can’t I just educate myself online for free?
A: There is a lot of information online! How do you determine what's accurate, and up-to-date? What if you have questions about what you find? Our classes are based on the latest, evidence-based information, and we are constantly updating our content. And because our classes are LIVE, you and your partner will be engaged in the learning process, while getting your questions answered in real-time.

Q: Won't the doctors and nurses just tell me what to do?
A: Routine hospital practices are often about 15 years behind the research, and there may be a lot of pressure to do things a certain way simply because of "tradition". In these classes, you and your partner will gain the confidence to be your own advocates. We also cover how to develop and maintain positive communication so that you and your birth team can share in the decision making process. You are an active participant in this experience!

Q: I'm pretty sure I want to get an epidural. Is there a point in taking this course?
A: These classes are for anyone planning a vaginal birth, whether that is medicated or unmedicated. In addition to covering medical tools and pain management options, we also cover what will happen in the case of a cesarean. Our classes, just like our doulas, are without judgement or bias. We simply give you the tools and support you need for your individual birth goals.

Q: My friends/family told me that taking a childbirth class is a waste of time.
A: The classes of the past fell short (think early Lamaze), and gave childbirth education a bad reputation. Still today, there are some poor-quality courses out there. But our constantly evolving classes were designed for the modern parent, and are both educational and practical. We guarantee that you will love these classes, just like this client! Gabby says, "Even though this was my second child, we learned so many new and important things about pregnancy, labor, and delivery... helped build my confidence for our planned VBAC!"

Q: Will I really learn anything useful in this class?
A: Our clients always leave more confident and prepared than when they started. We cover valuable information about what your body will do in labor, through the immediate postpartum period. Plus, we have a whole class focused on comfort measures, which include pain management techniques like massage, water therapy, birthing positions, deep breathing, and so much more! You will learn more than you can imagine!
